Thread lifts: a non-surgical lift, refined.

PDO thread lifts use dissolvable threads inserted under the skin to lift sagging tissue and stimulate collagen production. A middle path between injectables and surgery — for patients who want more than fillers but are not ready for a facelift.

The Treatment

How thread lifts actually work.

PDO (polydioxanone) threads are absorbable surgical threads — the same material used in deep wound closure for decades. Inserted under the skin via fine needles, they do two things at once: they lift tissue mechanically (immediate, visible result) and they trigger collagen production as your body breaks them down over 6–9 months (gradual, structural improvement).

The result builds. You walk out with an immediate lift, and over the following months your skin quality improves underneath. By the time the threads have fully dissolved, the collagen they stimulated is the structural support keeping the lift in place.

Thread Types

Smooth, cog, and combination protocols.

Different thread designs do different things. The protocol that fits you depends on whether the primary goal is lifting, collagen building, or both.

  • Smooth threads — fine, even threads inserted in a grid pattern. Primary goal: stimulate collagen and improve skin quality. Subtle effect, broad area.
  • Cog threads — threads with small barbs along the length that grip tissue. Primary goal: mechanical lift. Stronger immediate effect, more targeted areas.
  • Combination protocols — most common. Cog threads provide the lift; smooth threads support skin quality in surrounding areas. The full effect requires both.

Candidates

Who thread lifts are for.

Thread lifts work best for patients with mild-to-moderate facial sagging — typically in their 40s through 60s. The most common areas treated are the jawline (sagging jowls), mid-face (loss of cheek volume position), and neck (early laxity).

They are the right call when injectables are no longer enough but a facelift is more than you want. The result is real but more subtle than surgery, with recovery measured in days rather than weeks. Patients with severe sagging or significant excess skin will get better results from surgery — we will tell you which category you are in.

The Process

What to expect, start to finish.

A thread lift session takes about an hour from start to finish. Here is how the visit unfolds.

  1. 01

    Consultation & mapping

Dr. Lee assesses your facial anatomy and marks the lift vectors — the specific lines along which threads will be inserted to achieve your goal.

  2. 02

    Light numbing

Topical anesthetic plus small injections of local anesthesia at insertion points. Pain is minimal — most patients describe the sensation as pressure, not pain.

  3. 03

    Thread insertion

30–60 minutes depending on the number of threads. Threads are inserted via fine needles and positioned to lift along the planned vectors.

  4. 04

    Same-day return

You drive yourself home. Light social activities the same day are fine; avoid strenuous exercise, heavy chewing, or sleeping on your face for the first week.

  5. 05

    Six-week assessment

A follow-up visit at six weeks to assess the immediate lift and discuss whether additional supportive treatments (additional threads, biostimulators) are recommended.

Why ASA Health MD

The middle path, executed with precision.

  • Physician-administered

Every thread is placed by Dr. Lee. Thread placement requires anatomical precision — vessel and nerve avoidance, vector planning. Not a treatment to delegate.

  • Anatomical precision

Vectors are mapped to your specific facial structure. We are not running a template protocol — we are designing a lift that matches your anatomy.

  • Conservative approach

We use fewer, well-placed threads over crowded protocols. Better to add than to overdo. The natural look comes from restraint.

  • Bio-aesthetic integration

Thread lifts pair naturally with biostimulators and other cellular therapies. The combined protocol builds longer-lasting results than threads alone.
