ASA Health MD

The neurological evaluation: where every plan starts.

A comprehensive physician-led assessment that combines exam, cognitive screening, history, and lifestyle audit. Before any imaging, any qEEG, any treatment — we understand the full picture of how your brain is working.

A focused neurological consultation in progress.

The Foundation

Why the evaluation comes first.

Brain health is layered. A symptom — poor sleep, fading focus, mood changes, lingering effects from a head injury — can have a dozen different underlying drivers. Imaging shows structure. qEEG shows electrical activity. Lab work shows biochemistry. None of them, alone, tell you what to do.

The neurological evaluation is the conversation that integrates everything. It is the starting point for every patient at ASA Brain because it is the conversation that determines whether you need imaging, what kind, whether qEEG would help, and what should change in your day-to-day before any technology gets involved.

What is Covered

The components of a full evaluation.

A full neurological evaluation at ASA Health MD includes the following components. Some patients need every layer; others need only the foundational conversation and screening.

  • Detailed medical history — including head injuries (even seemingly minor ones), sleep history, family neurological history
  • Standardized cognitive screening — attention, memory, executive function, processing speed
  • Physical neurological exam — cranial nerves, motor and sensory function, coordination, reflexes
  • Lifestyle audit — sleep, exercise, diet, stress, substance use, screen and sun exposure
  • Medication and supplement review — interactions, side effects, and what is and is not working
  • Goal-setting conversation — what you are hoping to change, what would meaningfully improve daily life

Candidates

Who the evaluation is for.

Anyone considering an ASA Brain protocol begins here. The most common reasons patients come to us: persistent sleep issues that have not responded to standard interventions, concentration and memory concerns, mood symptoms that do not fit cleanly into a psychiatric diagnosis, post-concussion or post-TBI symptoms that linger, and high-performers seeking to optimize cognitive function.

You do not need a referral. You do not need an existing diagnosis. The evaluation works precisely because it does not assume the answer before the conversation begins.

A focused, thoughtful individual.

The Process

What to expect, start to finish.

The evaluation is typically a single 90-minute appointment, with cognitive screening built in. Here is exactly how it unfolds.

  1. 01

    Intake forms

Detailed medical, neurological, lifestyle, and symptom history submitted before your visit. We review them before you arrive.

  2. 02

    In-person conversation

60 minutes with Dr. Lee. Your story, your goals, your concerns — discussed in depth. No rushed templates.

  3. 03

    Cognitive screening

20–30 minutes of standardized cognitive testing. Establishes a baseline and surfaces specific function strengths and weaknesses.

  4. 04

    Physical exam

Targeted neurological exam including cranial nerves, motor and sensory testing, coordination, and reflex assessment.

  5. 05

    Next-step plan

You leave with a clear recommendation: which additional evaluations (if any) make sense, which protocols to consider, what lifestyle modifications to begin immediately.

Why ASA Health MD

Evaluation, the way it should be done.

  • Physician-led

The entire evaluation — history, exam, cognitive screening, plan — happens with Dr. Lee. Not delegated to a technician or assistant.

  • Integrated framework

We assess all the inputs together — history, lifestyle, exam, screening — and form an integrated picture rather than treating each in isolation.

  • Time-intensive

90 minutes is the standard. Real history-taking, real conversation, real plan — none of that fits into a 15-minute slot.

  • No assumed answers

The evaluation tells us what is going on — it does not start with a conclusion and try to confirm it. We follow the data where it leads.
